After recent heavy rains in Chennai, the stretch of roads between Thirumulaivoyal and Ambattur industrial estate is highly pathetic, people traveling are looking for clues for roads. What can be seen is holes and pits in the stretch of 6kms between the two areas.
Interestingly this is the way connecting other parts of the north Chennai and east Chennai which includes anna nagar, koyembadu. People who go through this way, consume atleast around 40min to travel in public bus. The heavy vehicles traveling across the road add to traffic chaos.
I request the officials incase if this hears to your minds, please visit the roads and initiate immediate action to solve the problems.
Ambattur roads pathetic condition

Is India a poor nation
Posted by atmyexpressions Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 9:44 PM
One needs to rethink if India is a poor country.
With personal account deposit bank of $1500 billion in foreign reserve which have been misappropriated, an amount 13 times larger than the country's foreign debt.
Black money in Swiss banks -- Swiss Banking Association report, 2006 details bank deposits in the territory of Switzerland by nationals of following countries:
Top five
India---- $1456 billion
Russia---$ 470 billion
UK-------$390 billion
Ukraine- $100 billion
China-----$ 96 billion
Scandalous politicians and corrupt IAS, IRS, IPS officers, Dishones Industrialists have deposited in foreign banks in their illegal personal accounts a sum of about $ 1500 billion, which have been misappropriated by them. This amount is about 13 times larger than the country’s foreign debt. With this amount 45 crore poor people can get Rs 1,00,000 each. This huge amount has been appropriated from the people of India by exploiting and betraying them.
Once this huge amount of black money and property comes back to India, the entire foreign debt can be repaid in 24 hours. After paying the entire foreign debt, we will have surplus amount, almost 12 times larger than the foreign debt. If this surplus amount is invested in earning interest, the amount of interest will be more than the annual budget of the Central government. So even if all the taxes are abolished, then also the Central government will be able to maintain the country very comfortably.
this was reported in one of the leading news website. Content was extracted and edited by the blogger.

Facing the customer in Business meet & discussions
Posted by atmyexpressions Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 10:35 PM
A major activity of a Business analyst or a project manager is to handle the requirements of the customer. As a project manager and business analyst of my organization I was made to meet my client KVB (Karur vysya bank) early this month for requirement gathering and feasibility study. I carried this activity for almost five days at the client site.
I would say not that this meet was a total success to my ends. But the things happened to me in these five days has been tremendous learning opportunity. Few majors stuff that I learnt during this meet was Persuasive speaking, keen listening skill, and more & more patience and persistence.
My task was to get the requirements from the customer, and it was I started the game. In the discussion happened, the way the customer held his perception about my product was good indeed. As we drilled down the discussion it was hell coming on my way. The discussion ended with conclusion and with many issues unresolved. This made my mind think the reason for the unresolving of issues.
The reason I listed down myself are my inability to persuasive the customer on few points and my ability to grasp the entire perception of my customer. Let me highlight what persuasive is all about Persuasive Communications
To make wide scale changes and convince a lot of people to have a certain attitude about something is very difficult. This is the problem that professionals have when trying to get others to share their view. One way that mass change can be orchestrated is through the use of persuasive communication. Persuasive communication is a speech, television ad, or some kind of communication that advocates a particular side of an issue. Many persuasive communications fail to change attitudes while some are successful. There are an infinite number of tactics that can be used when making an argument.
Another major thing in meets is the patience in listening, which really helps in building up great relationship with the customer. This lack of patience will surely put the person in trouble irrespective of the side he belongs to, maybe a customer or the vendor.
The bottom line is, it’s up to us to keep it to a minimum. Keep in mind that customers are judging your every word and action, all while building expectations. If you fall short in their expectations in comparison to your competition, your competition may earn the loss by default.

Automatic ticket vending machines in MRTS- Thumbs down.
Posted by atmyexpressions Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 12:42 PM
As an frequent traveler in chennai suburban trains, I came across few modernisation initiatives by the railway authorities. Feeling that government and the railway minister are actively participating in consumer friendly attitude.
The initiative done by the govt was to decrease the waiting time for tickets in the counter. These Vending machines were installed in stations in places where there is very high floating population like west mambalam, central, park station.
However such solutions needs to be given thumbs-up only if the people are accepting the right solution. But in this case, I shall give thumbs down. The major purpose of these machines are not satisfied, where the commuters are refusing to use them for a major reason that it is not user friendly. People ignore the concept of smart cards and its working nature.
The smart card was made for those not a regular traveler but a frequent traveler. People would really ignore to carry a card or any ticket kind of article for just for the sake of avoiding the queue while buying tickets. I would say the whole concept of smart cards have failed, Not the ticket vending system. Something similar to that of platform ticket vending machine would really help commuters. Here the failure of concept selling have costed the whole project.
So therefore I shall keenly advice the authorities concerned to have an emphatic look into new initiatives drafted by them and have "go-ahead" words over the project. As an whole request people do not waste the public money as was done here.

Difference between PM and BA
Posted by atmyexpressions Monday, April 28, 2008 at 9:37 PM
Why Does a Project Need a Project Manager and a Business Analyst by Barbara Carkenord
The best way to guarantee success of any type of project is to have a strong, experienced Project Manager and a strong, experienced Business Analyst. These two individuals, working together from the beginning of the project, set the stage for success by accurately planning and clearly defining the expected outcomes. Both roles are necessary because they are each responsible for a different set of tasks and they each possess a set of skills that complement each other. The two roles are closely tied, but exactly what are the similarities and differences, and why does a project need both? In many organizations, one individual is being asked to play both roles. This article discusses the importance of assigning different individuals to each role to ensure project success.
Why Does a Project Need a PM and a BA?
Having both a Project Manager (PM) and a Business Analyst (BA) is critical to a project’s success. Each role provides specialized capabilities that make the difference between whether a project succeeds or struggles. PMs and BAs each have unique skills and knowledge areas that, when used together, produce a high quality product. They both want the project to be successful and want to satisfy their customer – the Executive Sponsor. They both understand the ultimate goal of the project – to meet the project objectives. They each work on their own tasks within the project to achieve these objectives. There are some areas of a project where the PM and BA work together or serve as a back-up for each other. There are many other areas where the two individuals diverge and do very different types of tasks.
The PM is responsible for ensuring that the product is delivered to the customer on time and within budget. The BA is responsible for ensuring that the product is built according to the requirements and is built correctly. This difference in focus is the reason that having both roles on the team is critical. The product will be built correctly, according to requirements, on time and within budget!
Working Together
So how do the PM and BA work together to make the project a success? Fundamentally, the PM manages project resources (people, money) and the BA manages the business stakeholders. The BA reports to the PM on his or her progress on the tasks in the work breakdown structure (WBS) in relation to requirements. Usually at the beginning of the project the PM and BA work very closely together and often work on the same tasks. Later as the project gets going, they each focus on their particular responsibilities and talk frequently to share their progress. Excellent PMs and BAs will work hand-in-hand to make the most of each other’s strengths. It is the healthy tension between the PM and the BA—the PM pushing to move forward and the BA cautiously wanting to gather just one more detail before going forward—that makes the combination so successful. They are inter-dependent because their goals are in conflict.
At the beginning of the project there are areas of overlapping responsibilities such as project scope definition, development of the project statement of purpose, project objectives and identification of business risks. A strong PM will utilize the analysis skills of the BA to make sure that the scope is feasible and well defined.
The Project Manager · Is usually the first person assigned to the project. · Is responsible for planning the project and ensuring the team follows the plan. · Manages changes, handles problems and keeps the project moving. · Manages people, money and risk. · Is the chief communicator of good or bad news to the Business Sponsors and IT Management. | The Business Analyst · Is usually assigned to the project after it has started. · Is responsible for bridging the gap between the business area and IT. · Learns the business inside and out. · Essentially serves as the architect of effective business systems. · Is viewed inconsistently across the industry in regard to job title, definition and responsibilities. |
As requirements are gathered, analyzed and documented by the BA, the PM is closely involved, reviewing the requirements and adjusting the plan as necessary. The PM also reviews the decisions made when the BA and technical architect design the solution. Typically the PM reviews all project deliverables at a high level looking for project adjustments and issues. The BA reviews all project deliverables that are related to requirements, solution design and testing; looking in detail to make sure that the business needs are being addressed.
During the project both the BA and the PM will maintain a relationship with their “customers.? The BA is the advocate for the business area and the PM will report project status and work to resolve issues. Both roles also have an ongoing dialogue with the technical team members: the BA working with the technical architects to design a solution, the PM watching the progress of the team and adjusting the plan as decisions are made.
When One Person Performs Both Roles
There are many projects where one person is assigned to act as both the PM and the BA. This is common and probably appropriate on small projects or when the organization is short staffed. Unfortunately, it is also common in organizations where there is a lack of understanding of the BA role and where the expectation is that business analysis is just another task a PM performs.
For the individual playing this dual role, the challenge is to be aware of the conflicting focus and to try to act in one role at a time. You may find you are having disagreements with yourself, and it may be helpful to have a fellow PM or BA listen to your internal debate to try and help you make decisions. Be aware that you probably have a preference for one role or the other and you may find yourself neglecting the tasks of the role that you enjoy the least. If you prefer doing PM work, you may miss requirements. If you prefer doing BA work, you may allow the schedule to slip or forget to direct your team members. This situation is further complicated if you are also assigned to other project responsibilities (i.e., you are also the technical architect) or assigned to work on other projects. Your project schedule, budget and product quality may be affected. Be sure to plan for adequate time needed to do both jobs effectively.
If you find yourself in this situation frequently in your organization, use your excellent communication skills to heighten awareness regarding the conflicting roles to your managers. Make management and your project team aware of your conflicting responsibilities and challenges associated with them. Seek help in managing the schedule and help to gather and document the requirements. If possible, try to minimize involvement on other concurrent projects. We cannot always have the ideal situation so make the best of what you have and communicate the issues as clearly as possible.
Dynamic Duos
When assigning PMs and BAs to a project, executive management should be aware of the importance of this dynamic duo. Their success depends on their respective experience, knowledge and skill sets. The results will vary depending on the individuals selected.
If a strong PM is assigned to work with a weak (inexperienced, unskilled or insecure) BA, the requirements gathering and analysis tasks may be rushed and important requirements may be missed. The PM will be pushing for the project to progress and the BA will not be strong enough to convince the PM that complete, accurate requirements are critical to project success. This may result in rework late in the project when the missing requirements are identified.
“Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of a particular project. Project management is comprised of five Project Management Process Groups – Initiating Processes, Planning Processes, Executing Processes, Monitoring and Controlling Processes, and Closing Processes – as well as nine Knowledge Areas.
These nine Knowledge Areas center on management expertise in Project Integration Management, Project Scope Management, Project Time Management, Project Cost Management, Project Quality Management, Project Human Resources Management, Project Communications Management, Project Risk Management and Project Procurement Management.
Rework may result in schedule and budget overruns.
In the opposite situation, if a weak PM is assigned to work with a strong BA, too much time may be spent in requirements gathering and the project will fall behind schedule. BAs want to get every single detail, 100% correct before moving forward and if the PM lets the BA try to accomplish this virtually impossible task, the schedule will be jeopardized. Also, if the PM does not strictly enforce the change control procedure, BAs may allow business people to add more and more requirements resulting in “scope creep? and project delays.
Obviously, the worse case situation is a project with a weak PM and a weak BA. No matter how involved the subject matter experts are, and how good the technical team is, this project is guaranteed to fail without strong leadership and clear requirements.
Therefore, the best case situation is a project with a strong PM and a strong BA. Assuming the rest of the project team is competent, this project will be well run and the end product will be of the highest quality. There is a great balance between thorough requirements gathering and project progress. The project will be on schedule and meet the expectations of the Executive Sponsor.
How to Achieve Specialized PM and BA Roles
Professional organizations like the IIBA and PMI are working to promote the career progression of PM and BA roles. Companies should recognize the importance of each role by giving them appropriate job titles, job descriptions, evaluation criteria and making sure that individuals in each role have the appropriate skill set. Training and cross training is important because a successful BA understands what the PM does and an excellent PM understands the role of the BA.
In summary, all projects need business analysis and project management skills. The PM and BA roles intersect and support each other. Some of the skills required by these two individuals are similar but many are different. Cooperation results in project success.
“Business Analysts are responsible for identifying business needs.
The Business Analyst is responsible for requirements development and requirements management. Specifically, the Business Analyst elicits, analyzes, validates and documents business, organizational and/or operational requirements. Solutions are not predetermined by the Business Analyst, but are driven solely by the requirements of the business. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement or organizational change.
The Business Analyst is a key facilitator within an organization, acting as a bridge between the client, stakeholders and the solution team. Business analysis is distinct from financial analysis, project management, quality assurance, organizational development, testing, training and documentation development.
Hoarding removal in chennai
Posted by atmyexpressions Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Hoardings, Hoardings, hoardings. Hoardings all across chennai, this has been the scenario for past five years in chennai, as per my observation. For the past one week all along the way to my office, surprising I have seen all the hoarding has been removed in major places of the city.
Major places like Thirumagalam signal, koyambedu Juction, Vadaplani signal, Ashok pillar and the whole 100 feet road from Padi to Guindy is almost hoarding free. kudos to chennai corporation who have taken action on unauthorized hoardings.
Especially the Vadapalani signal hoarding which would be usually polluted by cinema hoarding is almost empty with no sign of colors of Heroes and heroins !!!
At present hoarding kind of marketing and advertising has been restricted, and next question arises, where will these advertisers will find space to advertise? what will be their next step.
A best forward.....

Here's to all my buddies who are married, getting married, and looking forward to getting married.....
The Secret to a Lasting Marriage: Embrace Imperfection
When I was a little girl, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.
On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned toast in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet, all my dad did was reached for his toast, smiled at my mom, and asked me how my day was at school.
I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that toast and eat every bite! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. And I'll never forget what he said: "Baby, I love burned toast."
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his toast burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said,"Debbie, your mommy put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides, a little burnt toast never hurt anyone!"
In bed that night, I thought about that scene at dinner...and the kindness my daddy showed my mom. To this day, it's a cherished memory from my childhood that I'll never forget. And it's one that came to mind just recently when Jack and I sat down to eat dinner.
I had arrived home late...as usual...and decided we would have breakfast food for dinner. Some things never change, I suppose!
To my amazement, I found the ingredients I needed, and quickly began to cook eggs, turkey sausage, and buttered toast. Thinking I had things under control, I glanced through the mail for the day. It was only a few minutes later that I remembered that I had forgotten to take the toast out of the oven!
Now, had it been any other day -- and had we had more than two pieces of bread in the entire house -- I would have started all over. But it had been one of those days and I had just used up the last two pieces of bread. So burnt toast it was!
As I set the plate down in front of Jack, I waited for a comment about the toast. But all I got was a "Thank you!" I watched as he ate bite by bite, all the time waiting for some comment about the toast. But instead, all Jack said was, "Babe, this is great. Thanks for cooking tonight. I know you had a hard day."
As I took a bite of my charred toast that night, I thought about my mom and dad...how burnt toast hadn't been a deal-breaker for them. And I quietly thanked God for giving me a marriage where burnt toast wasn't a deal-breaker either!
You know, life is full of imperfect things...and imperfect people. I'm not the best housekeeper or cook. And you might be surprised to find out that Jack isn't the perfect husband! He likes to play his music too loud, he will always find a way to avoid yard work, and he watches far too many sports. Believe it or not, watching "Golf Academy" is not my idea of a great night at home!
But somehow in the past 37 years Jack and I have learned to accept the imperfections in each other. Over time, we have stopped trying to make each other in our own mold and have learned to celebrate our differences. You might say that we've learned to love each other for who we really are!
For example, I like to take my time, I'm a perfectionist, and I'm even-tempered. I tend to work too much and sleep too little. Jack, on the other hand, is disciplined, studious, an early riser, and is a marketer's dream consumer. I count pennies and Jack could care less! Where he is strong, I am weak, and vice versa.
And while you might say that Jack and I are opposites, we're also very much alike. I can look at him and tell you what he's thinking. I can predict his actions before he finalizes his plans. On the other hand, he knows whether I'm troubled or not the moment I enter a room.
We share the same goals. We love the same things. And we are still best friends. We've traveled through many valleys and enjoyed many mountaintops. And yet, at the same time, Jack and I must work every minute of every day to make this thing called "marriage" work!
What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's differences - is the one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting marriage relationship.
Have a great day! May God bless your marriage.
VCMCS, College Day -a new one than never before
Posted by atmyexpressions Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10:24 PM
On 29th February, VCMCS(Velammal College of Management Studies, Chennai) celebrated its college day. Been a Velammal student for many years, I knew the attendance would be made compulsory this year too, as thought it was same this time.
But unexpectedly I was surprised by my college performance and by the shows on stage by my juniors. It was a huge unexpected change seen by me in past years in Velammal especially in Non-Academics. Velammal is well known for academics, but now for Non-Academics too. Great!
Last year, college day was made common for both VCMCS and VEC(Velammal engineering college), I would say even though the strength was high enough for good performance, the independency to show case our talents were restricted to certain heights. Where people spoke on politics and partiality given to Engineering students, maybe it may also be a hurdle for real talents, not made out, during these Culturals.
But it was a happy day for all people in VCMCS, the big reason in not the college day but the separate opportunity to show-Case talents in big platforms. Applause to people behind the event, especially to the new Director, goes ahead with new brand building for the college.
The guest were executive director of IOB, India and Vice President, Human Resource, Reliance Retail, India, as usual the other delegates were the Chairman, CEO, of VET, and Administrator and principle of VEC. Non-Academicians especially from cine fields as guest are not solely entertained in VET.
Many girls came in sari and were in high makeup this was the big reason for guys to watch them all along like never seen them before. Guys as usually same old rag picker’s blazers given by college (bought from M.A. Jacod the carpet people). The stage was decorated with digital prints and was looking good. Food was given before the event start and we were made to be seated with food in stomach, but on food, I experienced eating the worst noodles in my life.
The most surprising part of the event was the initial songs played before the program, it was cine songs, but very selective with Chu Chu stuffs, but good relaxations, were earlier any songs from cinema other than national anthem were not allowed.
The dance performance of the juniours was mind blowing and the skit played by the MCA girls stays alive still with the humors. The other stuff like the drama and the other songs which were composed & lyrics by our own students was appreciable
Best highlight of events in Velammal is the time factor, Velammal used to keep their time since my school days, believe me it started sharp and ended sharp. That’s one good attitude I need to learn form this institute. Hmm. Hope you will carry the same.
Golden Temple, New Tourist Attraction @ Vellore
Posted by atmyexpressions Monday, March 3, 2008 at 12:23 PM
On Sunday I visited
I started to temple by 9am from my uncle home and took a bus to the temple; the place is called as Sri Puram, earlier it was called by some other name (Freak cant recollect the name). The temple is around 6-7Km away from
I can recollect my school days earlier (about 10 yrs back), when I once have visited this same place, but to the temple opposite to the golden temple. The older temple had the same goddess and the we used to have lunch after the yagna. These were things I was able to recollect. But still now i have no idea about what I I did in that temple during my childhood.
But now same person who used to conduct the yagana and used to tell some Kuri(Predicting the future), something like astrology practices, I the person behind this Golden temple. The person is called as Godman for the whole Golden temple.
Not much worrying about the money he raised for this temple, I wondered how he has designed an excellent business model for the temple. I entered the temple and found it was exactly an small model of Tirumula , Thirupathi. The had an small counter for free entry and another counter for 100 Rs tickets. Fortunately the boards mentioned that it will take another 4 Hours for Free Dharshan, and 2 Hours for 100 Rs counter. I dared to spend time for the free Dharshan. As I moved on I was put in a similar cell as u find in Thirumula, I was put into an cell equipped with chairs and with coffee stall in it. Then with in few minutes the cell was filled down and suddenly the guards opened the doors of the cell. It took was only few minutes to reach the temple doors where I was put for metal detector checking. People with mobile and other luggage are not allowed inside the temple.
The queue was made to move around the temple, where the saying form Gita and the personal saying of the Godman was put in both English and Tamil. Believe me the place was so gorgeous that I couldn’t believe that it was my Birth placed which is usually a dry town. It was an excellent architecture from the engineers and gold smith. The view has really pleased my heart.
But one thing for sure this place is not a place of worship for me but a good site visit and a must visit place for all. The temple was well designed to accompany large number devotees and I found an excellent business model from the temple. A big hotel was raised near the temple premises and charges were made for entry of vehicles, for
Even people selling tender coconut, butter milk, cool drinks, ornaments and many more have priced more compared to the prices in the main town. Great few have got a new livelihood since this temple opening. But I had a gut feeling of some thing fishy on this temple, but I couldn’t explain this why?, cant digest a new creation in the name of God suddenly after this huge expenditure. Sure God has the answers, awaiting this from God.
People who like to visit this place; I appreciate if you visit this place as an tourist place but not as pilgrimage place. Don’t know why.
Life at Guru Nanak College, Chennai
Posted by atmyexpressions Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Practically speaking, life in college is the most memorable moments in life for all those had been to college. Yes it was Dam true for me too @ Guru Nanak College, Chennai.
For a person out of a school called Velammal which was absolutely a jail, this place (Guru Nanak) so called a heaven i am dam sure about this! Any student out of Velammal and into any art and science college would say the same, may be few engineering college would go with this.
Guru Nanak a word which is in my lighter side of my heart. My life has been changed in this place, at school I was very introvert and less gutted person who is even bit afraid of talking with friends due to strictness and used to perform less academically and its paved way to the worse situation in my life @ school.
The college taught me more lesson in my life than I learnt in my degree. It was not only the degree I earned in Guru Nanak it was the best philosophy and thoughts I learnt. Thank God I didn’t go with engineering. I landed here. The college had simple rules, don’t disturb the environment and they don’t disturb you. It’s a place were a student and professor were having the best rapport in them. Its was good place for studious people and place too for fun loving people. A place were it can accommodate both personalities
Nevertheless exceptions were there, but I didn’t come across them. Things the college taught was really marvelous in sense, it has helped me to shape my career from scarp to an management student at present were I stand. College life not only all about degree and fun, more than this its about the learning the importance and responsibilities in life. An major carrier break in my life was in this place.
